It's so beautiful--a lovely, deep, dark red foil that manages to grab your eye and catch the light. And the title is embossed! I feel very fancy, and it is a lovely feeling indeed :-)

I know a lot of you have been wondering what the cover looks like, and although these pictures don't really do it justice, they do give you a hint of both the cover's depth of color--quite frankly, it almost looks 3-D, it pops that much!--and it's overall awesomeness. (You can click on the photo to see much larger versions of the photos here)

Also, the interior? Gorgeous! Two-tone, and with none of the errors (or tiny type) that littered the ARC, as well as some changes....

Now--picture time!!

shows the color depth

foil! also, lovely embossing!

the back--the photo doesn't do justice to the trees at the bottom...

dear, Kirkus--I LOVE you!

Kirkus, the review journal noted for its refusal to sugar-coat anything, has reviewed Low Red Moon. To say I am over the moon (!!) by the review is an understatement.

Here it is:

"Devlin breathes new life into a format that’s lately verged on self-parody by wrapping her shy-teenage-girl-and-supernatural-male love story in an overarching tragedy. After Avery Hood is discovered with the mutilated bodies of her parents but no memory of what happened to them, her grandmother, Renee, who lives in the town outside the forest where Avery was raised, takes her in. Avery wants to help track down her parents' killers, but all she can recall is a flash of silver. Although Ben, a new student at her school, fascinates her, his silver eyes are disturbing--especially when she realizes he’s a werewolf. As their powerful mutual attraction and Avery's mysterious connection to the forest grow, the menacing evil stalking her draws closer. Pleasingly concise for this overwritten genre, the story derives its power and authenticity at least as much from its well-observed study of grief as from the intense love story. Intriguing characters and a suspenseful plot that unfolds with elision and restraint add up to a promising series opener." -- Kirkus

I am off to be shocked and happy...

Low Red Moon trailer is here!!

For feeds that strip out links, you can watch it here or here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HwDV2Mxtlg

Low Red Moon Trailer premiere (and ARC giveaway!)

The lovely folks at Bloomsbury have premiered the Low Red Moon trailer on Facebook--and are giving some ARCs away to celebrate!

To see the trailer, and enter the ARC giveaway, head on over to:

http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1385572403621

I hope you like the trailer as much as I do, and as soon as it's available for streaming on YouTube or download, I'll be sure to let you know!

ALA 2010

Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm going to be at this year's annual ALA conference in DC, and I'll be signing ARCs of Low Red Moon on Sunday, June 27th from 3-4 PM in booth 2800!

I hope to see you there!

some news about Low Red Moon, or yes, the ARC IS different

There seems to be some confusion about the ARCs of Low Red Moon vs. how the finished book is going to look, and I thought it would be a good idea to go ahead and address them:

--Length: The galleys for Low Red Moon are under 200 pages long, but that's because the font size used was/is TINY. Those of you who've read the ARCs will know what I mean by this.

Why is the font size so tiny? Smaller text=fewer pages=less $ per galley

The final version of Low Red Moon will be over 250 pages long--256, I think. So although it isn't as long as some paranormal books out there, it is NOT an under 200 page book.

--Layout--The galleys of Low Red Moon contain a sample of what the finished book's layout will be like, which is two-tone (or two-colors) throughout. It looks amazing, but again, costs $--so it is currently used in full on only one page of the galley.

--Cover--The galleys of Low Red Moon are similar to what the final cover will be, but they are not the final cover, which, as of now, is going to feature really gorgeous red foil and silver embossing.

There are plenty of times when an ARC is pretty much the same as a finished book. This is not the case with Low Red Moon, and I just wanted to get that info out there, because, again, as I said, there seems to be some confusion about the book's length/layout/etc.

Let me know if you have any questions!

BEA--wow!

BEA was amazing--the panel I did with Richelle, Andrea, and Holly was awesome and humbling--they are all such fantastic writers and people! (And I was also the only one--including the whole audience, I think!, who hadn't read the HP or Twilight books. In my defense, I did see the first Twilight movie, but both the HP and Twilight books--they're so big! Weeks and weeks of reading big! Plus I can't read what I'm writing while I'm writing it. Is anyone else like that?)

Anyway, the panel we did actually made GalleyCat--which was a huge, and very pleasant, shock! And my quote is pretty typical of my comments, which were very much all about why I wrote Low Red Moon--I wrote a book I wanted to read, and selling it? Talk about a dream come true!

In addition to the panel, I also met loads of bloggers (this was the first BEA I've been to where bloggers seemed to outnumber librarians and booksellers!) and signed galleys of Low Red Moon, and if you were one of the people who waited in line--thank YOU! I've been told Bloomsbury gave out over 500 (!) galleys of Low Red Moon during BEA, and the signing was packed, but I loved (LOVED!) every minute of it. Talking to people who love books and love reading--how can that not be the most wonderful thing ever??

As a thank you to YOU--and to everyone else who has been so amazing about Low Red Moon, I have three ARCs to give away. You have to have a US mailing address, and you'll need to let me know your blog's URL--and leave a way for me to contact you!!--but I'll pick three people at random from the comments this Friday and those three people will get a signed ARC of Low Red Moon!

Also, because a lot of people have asked--no, the ARC cover is NOT the final cover. I've seen what it is going to look like and--wow. WOW. Let's just say that every bookstore rep I talked to knew it and that was their reaction too! Also, the text will be two-color throughout the whole book--the ARC only does a few pages, and the effect? I cried when I saw the pages, they were so pretty.

Yes, that pretty. I can't wait for September 14th!!

BEA reminder--hope to see YOU!!

Just a reminder about my upcoming BEA events (which I'm so excited about!)

I'm thrilled to say I'm going to be part of the YA paranormal panel on Wednesday, May 26th at 11 AM on the Downtown Stage in Hall 3E (the stage is over by the the autographing table area)--Holly Black, Richelle Mead, and Andrea Cremer will all be there!
